Where:
Middlesex England

Favourite Club:

Football Milestones:
Personal: Still being able to play soccer at the age of 61 and being involved with Cashmere Wanderers AFC.

Brentford Milestones: Releasing Rod Stewart to the world of Music

Did you come from a footballing family?
"No, in fact my Mother was a great swimmer and my Dad played hockey for the British Army. Dad passed away 12 years ago but Mum's still going strong at 93, lives on her own and is an armchair expert on snooker."
When did you first play for Wanderers?
"I arrived in Christchurch, New Zealand from England in December 1969 and played/Coached for Cashmere Wanderers in 1970."

What are your recollections of Wanderers in the early years?
"Great Team Spirit. I played for the Third Division team for a number of years. They were a great team, great bunch of guys. Good club coaching where top priority was on ball skills, close passing, NEVER on long balls"

Were there any players in this era that impressed you?
"Yes John Gillen, ex-pat Scotsman who was once on Celtic's books. Later on Eric Bennett our first team player/coach. Also in our original third division side was Eric Banks, ex Tranmere Rovers. He played on the wing for us. Great crosser of the ball and he had a grey beard down to his trouser belt."

In your opinion has the level of football in Canterbury improved?
"Yes it has improved, teams like Christchurch United were great. They were made up of imports ex UK and Europe, but now there are more and more Kiwis playing the game. The coaching of these up and coming players is getting better and better."

Do you have any advice for people playing football today?
"Yes. First and foremost, you have to enjoy your time with the ball and remember most of the training and coaching is only on average once or twice a week. It is upto the individual to put time and effort into practise on his own or with a mate."

If you weren't playing what would you be doing?
"Id either be a team manager or looking after a soccer ground, as I firmly believe in presentation. I.E. Team in correct kit, the pitch marked correctly, nets up etc. If I couldn't do the above I'd like to be sailing around the world BUT in a 20ft trailer sailor. That could be suicidal!!!"

Future Plans!
1. To go to the next World Cup 2006
2. To continue being involved in Soccer (which I consider to be the greatest sport in the world) for as long as I am able.
