The Cashmere United
Super Youth squad took on Halswell at Halswell Domain on Saturday at 12.30.
The sun was out but a strong wind
blew down the pitch. Planned tactics during the week paid off as our lads took
control straight from the Halswell kick off, with Nathan Ainsworth’s shot on
goal coming within the first minute. A good defensive effort by the back three
of Michael Ross, Regan Riddell and Ed Woodard kept the Halswell team entrenched
in their half. As a result, the goals came with first half strikes to Vini,
Steve McCrae (2) and the goal of the match to Nathan. Regan played the ball to
young Evan Jones who put Nathan away down the right flank. Nathan’s speed
carried him towards the goal unopposed. With the keeper to beat, Nathan drove it
past the keeper’s left-hand side and into the net. Halswell didn’t give up tho
and were rewarded with a good goal as they ran through our flank defence and
blasted a goal past the keeper Seb Parr. 4-1 at half time. The second half was a
scrappy affair as a number of changes were made. A spectacular diving save by
Shaun McGowan in goal kept his sheet clean as he agilely tipped the ball over
the bar from a long-range drive from the Halswell team. Regan made it 5-1 when
he ran the length of the field and nut-megged the keeper in the dieing minutes
of the match.
A much improved effort as we
dominated for long periods of time.
