Well the season is over and the summer awaits but there is no time for the Cashmere Wanderers club to sleep, the 2009 season preparations are already well under way and below you will find just a taste of things to come...

Special General Meeting

Some of you may be aware that the Club is considering a proposal to join forces with the Ferrymead Bays Football Club, and we held an Information Evening on Monday 22 September to present the proposal (a copy of this presentation is available in our website members area for viewing).

The proposal will be voted on at a Special General Meeting to be held at 7.30 pm at the Cashmere Club on Thursday 16 October 2008. This proposal will affect the future of your Club so please come along and have your say at this important meeting.

More information on this will be coming to you as a separate email. If you have any questions please contact

Fred Simpson on freds@cashmerefootball.co.nz  or

We would love some people to volunteer and join the committee to help with this job, even if only for a small part of the day. We are meeting at the Cashmere Club on Sunday 9th November at 9am. First Steps to Football

For the first time we are able to offer a Summer Programme developed by our own Football Development Manager targeting our 5 and 6 year olds. This will be a weekly after school class aimed at introducing and developing appropriate football skills for our first time players. Following this programme, players should be ready to join our in-house 7th Grade Saturday Football for the 2009 season. We invite participants from the 2008 Midgets Programmes along with any newcomers looking to take up Football as a sport in 2009 Spring Term. Start date is Wednesday 15th October. Please refer to the website for more details. www.cashmerefootball.co.nz.

Message from Fred

Well the 2008 season is over with a very wet and messy end for most. However it did have some high points with our 11th grade Division One team, in particular, involved in a great competition and finally triumphing over all-comers. There were many other very commendable efforts including both our girls 12th and 19th grades showing that football is truly a game for all.

The opportunities opening up for young players both male and female in and outside of New Zealand are very exciting and real. It is partially with this in mind that we are establishing a comprehensive programme of off- season development for all our young players.

We can now offer the chance for ambitious, determined and focused individuals to work on their overall development during the break between seasons. As part of our “Player Development Strategy” this programme will initially focus on the individual and a range of Age specific -Technical Outcomes covering: Ball Manipulation – Passing – Running with the ball – Dribbling – Controlling and receiving – Shooting & Finishing – Challenging & Interception – Crossing – Turning – Heading.

We will also touch on a “Fitness for Football” programme looking at the physical requirements of playing our game at a high level based on best practice research from across the globe.

All of this work will be progressed towards the players understanding of their “Role and Responsibilities within the game” and eventually with the focus moving towards the Tactical Outcomes required at team level.

At the same time we will be looking to Up Skill our coaching staff in understanding and delivering our requirements. Overall the aim is to give our players the best possible opportunity to reach their true potential within our game.

Although the cost of these programmes are minimal compared with other opportunities available, please be assured that it is our intention to insure that the content and delivery is of the highest order and simply offers exceptional value to our members.

FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup

Running between 28th October and 16th November, this is the first ever Women’s Under 17 FIFA World Cup event and Christchurch will host both the semi-finals and pool play (a total of 8 games). All FIFA tournaments are run the same as the main FIFA World Cup - the biggest sporting event in the world - so this is a chance to taste that atmosphere right here in our own backyard. It will be a fantastic spectacle with 16 of the world's best foot balling nations taking part after a qualification process involving more than 100 countries. The event also provides a great opportunity to showcase New Zealand, with at least 150 territories taking the broadcasting rights and over 100 million people expected to watch the event worldwide.
